Getting Started With Zag
Any Canadian resident who is the age of majority in the province or territory they live in is welcome to open a Zag account. However, our products are not available to residents of Québec at this time.
If you’re new to Zag, opening an account with Zag is easy - it’s 100% self-serve through our website. Go to zagbank.ca and click on ‘Open an Account.’ Our secure application process takes about ten minutes using your desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile device. We just need a few things from you:
- Your name, address and Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- A valid email address
- A cheque from a Canadian financial institution with your name on it. Or both names, if you want to open a joint account
Once you become a Zag customer, it’s easy to add new accounts through online banking. Simply log in to Zag Online and select the new account you would like to open.
Note that we do not offer products and services to residents of Québec at this time.
That’s easy. You can pick up where you left off by simply saving your application at any point. Come back when you’re ready and complete the application on any of your devices. If you forget, don’t worry, we’ll send you a reminder email.
Yes. After you complete your application, you will be sent an email with instructions to make a deposit to activate your account. You decide the amount of your first deposit and then send us a cheque from a Canadian financial institution. For GIC accounts, a minimum of $250 is required. For other types of accounts, $1 will do. You can either take a picture of the cheque using our SnapCheque feature on your phone or drop it in the mail.
To send us a cheque for your first deposit, please mail to the appropriate address below based on the province you live in. This helps to reduce the processing time of your cheque.

Please provide the reference number in the memo field on your cheque. The reference number is included in your email.
Adding money to any of your Zag accounts is as easy as it is rewarding. With the Zag mobile app, you can use SnapCheque to deposit a cheque. From Zag Mobile, simply take a picture of the cheque with our SnapCheque feature, follow the steps, and click ‘Submit’.
You can also transfer money from any Canadian bank account linked to your Zag account, through Zag Online or Zag Mobile.
